Since 2022, the University of Glasgow and Glasgow City Council have been working on the £10.2 million research programme GALLANT (Glasgow as a Living Lab Accelerating Novel Transformation). Collaborating with 29 partners from a variety of public bodies, community groups and businesses, GALLANT will trial new sustainable solutions throughout Glasgow. Taking a whole-systems approach under the doughnut economics framework, the programme aims to address the city’s environmental challenges, and improve public health, wellbeing, and the economy.

For more information on the wider programme, follow this link.

At a local level, GALLANT is also fostering inclusive partnerships within Glasgow’s diverse communities, using a citizen science approach and positioning residents as co-researchers. In the past year, the team have run workshops in three areas to identify local needs, and in response to these they have now co-created five fully funded community science projects.
